With less than two weeks left in the summer transfer window, English clubs have completed just 13 percent of their summer transfer business. That’s a decrease from last year when the same period ended at 14 percent. With so little time left, there are still plenty of deals to go through. Here are all the latest news, rumors, and updates on Chelsea’s transfer activities as we head into the final days of the summer window.
Summer Transfers
The summer transfer window has closed, and Chelsea has done very little to bolster its squad. They signed Nathan, who was on the Blues’ books at one point, for a transfer fee of £500,000. That’s the maximum amount that a Premier League team can pay a player outside of his contract without his consent. It’s possible that Chelsea could still bring in one or two more new signings. At this stage, though, there’s only a faint glimmer of hope. It’s looking like a very quiet transfer window for the Blues. That could change very soon, though. Chelsea has a number of players returning from injury, and it’s quite possible that those players will have to play a part in the Chelsea squad soon enough. At the moment, Chelsea is in the market to sign a defender and a striker. One of those two targets could very well be confirmed by the end of the week. There are still a few other players whose summer transfer has not yet been confirmed. The list includes Victor Christensen, Mario Pasalic, and Michael Hector.
Who's Leaving Chelsea?
Chelsea had a busy day on Monday when they sold Denis Cheryshev to Real Betis for a reported €3 million fee. This was confirmed by the Spanish press, who were privy to the transfer between two Spanish clubs for the first time. Cheryshev was one of the Blues’ fringe players. He was a 22-year-old Russian forward who had been at the club since 2017. When he was signed, he was said to be one of Europe’s top young strikers. That didn’t really come through in a disappointing time for the Blues. The Blues have a number of players leaving the club. They have extended Asmir Begovic’s contract, which means that he’s not set to leave the club.
Who's Coming to Chelsea?
Carlo Ancelotti is already working diligently to get his preferred transfer targets to Chelsea as soon as possible. The new manager has already started his search to bring new players to Stamford Bridge. Ancelotti has already made it clear that he wants to bring in younger players, and he’s already taken the first step toward doing so. On Monday, Chelsea announced that they had signed Pachuca midfielder, who will turn 18 in August, on a five-year contract. That move was followed by a report that had Chelsea in talks with Napoli over the transfer of their Serie A Player of the Year. The Blues are also said to be interested in signing Gonzalo Higuain, who has been a bit-part player for the Blues since signing for the club in 2015. Ancelotti could very well have a number of new players in his squad in the coming weeks.
Wrapped Up?
The window is over, and that means that the summer transfer speculation is over, too. It was a pretty quiet window at Stamford Bridge, and there wasn’t much buzz around the club. That could very well change in the coming weeks. There could be some late-summer deals, and there’s a possibility that Chelsea could make one or two big transfers. There could, of course, also be some players who leave the club in the coming weeks. At this point, though, it’s hard to say what the future holds for Chelsea. They haven’t made a move to sign anyone, and it’s very likely that they won’t be signing anyone.
The Latest Rumour
Eriksen has been linked with several Premier League teams this summer, and now Chelsea has joined the fray. The Blues are said to be one of three teams that have made a bid for the Tottenham midfielder. The report claims that Chelsea, Liverpool, and Inter Milan are among the teams interested in bringing Eriksen to England. Eriksen has been one of Tottenham’s best players this season, and he’s been one of the Spurs’ most high-profile players. That’s made him an attractive transfer target. If Chelsea is indeed one of three teams interested in bringing Eriksen to England, it’s possible that they could still make a late push for the midfielder.
